Thanks for visiting with us. We hope to keep you informed of all
the latest news on our rebuilding effort and provide as much information as
we can. Some pages are still a work in progress and will be updated as
often as possible so we hope you will explore the site frequently.
2004 was an important year for us as we established the foundation we needed
to achieve our goal. We built great momentum during 2005 and carried
that into 2006 having
rounded the corner to say "when" instead of "if" about the bridge
being rebuilt. You too can follow along through 2007 & 2008 as we watch a new
covered bridge appear over Evans Creek! Keep those calendars clear for
fall of 2006
2007 (O.K......so we had to adjust the timeline a little, we added
the picture too so this one is pretty accurate now!) spring of 2008 and our
ribbon cutting ceremony! Now that we have the new covered bridge open
and being enjoyed by all, we will dedicate the new bridge and celebrate the
grand opening exactly 5 years to the day that we lost our old friend on
Sunday, July 6th 2008! Hope to see you all there.
The bridge group has been busy with the construction of the new Wimer
Covered Bridge since June. Much was accomplished to see this phase of
the project move forward but we are not done yet. Our involvement has
limited the time we had planned to spend on the May Ellis Park Project this
summer but we want to reassure all interested parties that we will be back
on task regarding the park as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience while we get this
new bridge built.
The May Ellis Park Project is still on and will be an even bigger asset to
the community with the bridge looking over the park. We will be having our second
planning meeting just as soon as we get closer to seeing the bridge
completed. Stay
tuned and keep those great ideas coming!
The mission of this organization is to ensure that the historic covered
bridge, which had stood since 1892, is replaced in all its original glory.
We will work to fairly represent the community of Wimer and to be a
gathering point for comments, concerns, and fund-raising opportunities. We
plan to work closely with the county and other organizations to ensure that
the funds necessary are acquired and the re-building proceeds in a timely
manner.
